    1:1 Teaching Assistant 

    Employer:  Nether Stowey CE VC Primary School 

    Salary: Grade 14 Point 4-6 

    Actual starting salary: £25,185 pro rata  

    Contract type: Fixed Term (until the pupils leave our education setting) 

    Working pattern: Full time, 8:45am – 12pm, 12:30 – 3:30pm.  31 hours 15 minutes per week. 

    Start date: Monday 7th September 2026

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team, providing 1:1 pupil support, including lunchtime supervision. Our thriving primary school serves Nether Stowey and the surrounding area, benefiting from strong community, church, and family links.     What will I be doing? 

    We are seeking a teaching assistant to support high-quality teaching and learning across the school, working with individual pupils, small groups and whole classes. You will have specific responsibility for supporting two pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in different classes and year groups, ensuring that their individual needs are met and they are able to access the curriculum, make progress and fully participate in school life.  One child to be supported in the morning.  The other child to be supported in the afternoon. 

    Key Responsibilities: 

    • Support pupils in accessing learning activities and achieving their goals 

    • Provide consistent 1:1 support to enable a highly differentiated curriculum aligned with pre-key stage expectations 

    • Use repetition, overlearning and practical approaches to support memory and retention of key concepts 

    • Break tasks into small achievable steps to support success and confidence 

    • Deliver targeted interventions focussing on early communication, literacy, numeracy and life skills 

    • Support emotional regulation and assist with transitions throughout the school day 

    • Assist with individual education and behaviour plans, working closely with the class teacher and SENCo to implement personal targets and strategies 

    • Promote inclusion, self-esteem, and independence 

    • Provide feedback to pupils and teachers monitoring and reporting on progress 

    • Support classroom activities, including ICT and intervention programmes 

    • Foster positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues 

    • Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and equality policies 

    What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

    • Have experience/knowledge of working with primary aged children; 

    • Be hardworking, flexible and highly organised; 

    • Be able to work independently and as an integral part of the existing team; 

    • Be a consummate professional, with excellent basic skills in literacy, numeracy and spoken English; 

    • Have a clear understanding of the safeguarding frameworks and the requirements of the Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children; 

    • Be willing to undertake any training associated with the role; 

    • Be resilient with a good sense of humour and the passion to make a difference and place the children at the heart of all they do. 

    • Have the ability to use initiative in responding to the needs of children;
