History

At Nether Stowey, our aim for history is for children to not only learn facts and information about the past, but to also learn the skills required to be a historian. We want our pupils to be equipped with a chronological and in depth understanding of the past; to enquire and interpret a range of historical sources and to find different ways to communicate their knowledge and understanding. It is important that children understand that what happens in the past has consequences and can cause change, and that we should not take historical sources at face value, but should compare and contrast them to discuss their reliability. We develop this through an enquiry-based approach whereby each topic begins with a question. Children then explore this question over the course of the topic, using a variety of engaging and investigative lessons.
